ABOUT US

Who we are

The 1843 coat of arms of Baku carried an anchor for the port and a camel bearing flowering saffron for trade. The plant came here from Asia Minor in the seventh to ninth centuries and stayed.

About the company

Red Gold is a local company that has specialised in growing, producing and selling saffron in Azerbaijan since 2017. The work is done on our own fields on the Absheron peninsula, and the whole production process is controlled within the company. Our aim is to join the long saffron tradition to modern technology and quality standards, and to offer a natural product of high value, with nothing added.

Production at Red Gold covers the whole chain from the soil to the finished product: the selection of saffron planting stock, planting, picking, drying and packing are all carried out under the supervision of specialists. Every detail matters at the production stage, because the quality of saffron begins with growing and processing it properly.

The work of the company is led by professional agronomists and production specialists. The quality of Red Gold products shows not only in taste and aroma but in the preservation of their quality components. Our aim is to offer the customer the most natural and safe product and, alongside that, to make the “Azerbaijani saffron” brand known internationally.

Today Red Gold has a name that is trusted in saffron. What the land gives we raise responsibly and offer plainly.

HISTORY

Work that was once stopped

Everything below is documented fact — the coat of arms, the state farm, the export figure.

  1. 7th–9th century

    The plant comes to Absheron

Saffron is brought from Asia Minor. The sandy soil and dry air turn out to suit Crocus sativus unusually well.

  2. 1843

On the coat of arms of Baku

The city's coat of arms shows an anchor for the port and a camel bearing flowering saffron for trade.

  3. 19th century

    Sixteen tonnes a year

Close to a thousand poods of saffron leave Absheron every year for the neighbouring countries.

  4. 1927

The “Zafaran” state farm at Bilgah

A state farm is set up in Bilgah, Mashtaga and Shuvalan. The sand of these three villages is chosen for this plant.

  5. 1990s

    The work stops

The fields are divided, the corms are lost, the knowledge stays in the memory of the old.

  6. 2017

    Planting again

We begin planting in the same sand again — not on the old state farm's field, but beside it.

THE MARK

Six petals, three stigmas

The six petals in the mark are the petals of the Crocus sativus flower. The three dots are the three red stigmas taken from each flower — the only part of the plant that is used, and the very thing we sell.
